Uzbeki girl’s arrest: High profile sex racket suspected

Bhubaneswar: After the arrest of a foreigner in the city Monday, police suspect a high profile sex racket is in operation here. The woman, who claims to be from Tashkent in Uzbekistan, might be involved in a sex racket, cops say.

Kharvelnagar police conducted a raid Monday night at a guest house in Patia where the girl was staying and seized some objectionable material from there. Police also detained the caretaker of the guest house. “We have got things from the guest house which hints at her involvement in a prostitution racket. The caretaker has also revealed many things. We would soon arrest other people involved in the racket,” said a senior cop on the condition of anonymity.

Officials said they seized an air ticket in the name of Duniya Khan. It showed the girl was staying in the city from Delhi July 19. Earlier, Police got an Aadhaar card that also identified her as Duniya Khan under a Delhi address. Police suspect it to be a fake.

Notably, the Uzbek girl was found lying on a pavement in front of a hotel near Malisahi in Kharvelnagar Sunday night. On being informed, police rushed to the spot and found her screaming. When cops tried to lift her, she hit back. The cops then took her to Capital Hospital for medical examination and later arrested her.

Police have seized a liquor bottle, Rs 49,500 and a key of the guest house in Patia area from her possession. Cops also contacted Delhi Police for verification of her Aadhaar card and also the External Affairs Ministry to get more details about the woman.

In March last, police rescued a woman of Kyrgyzstan, another breakaway republic of erstwhile USSR, from a hotel here where she was suspected to have been into prostitution.
