Khandapada: An English teacher was allegedly tied to a tree and garlanded with shoes by the owner of a private coaching centre owner after the former did not turn up for classes citing non-release of salaries at Kantilo of Nayagarh district, a report said Friday.
The matter came to the fore after a video of the alleged humiliation went viral in social media with the victim lodging a complaint in Khandapada police station. Police registered a case and started an investigation but is yet to arrest the accused.
According to the complaint, the victim hailing from Karabar village under Bhapur block was teaching English to students at private coaching centre Satyasai Tutorials in Kantilo. However, he stopped taking classes after the tutorial organizer Tapan Mohapatra did not pay him every month and harassed him on various pretexts.
Enraged, Mohapatra lured the victim for a discussion to an isolated place. Later, Mohapatra with the help of two others tied the victim to a banyan tree and gagged his mouth with sand and polythene before garlanding him with shoes.
Later, he abused and threatened him of dire consequences if he discloses the matter before anybody. The victim was under deep mental stress after the incident but mustered courage and lodged a complaint in the police station after he was advised by local residents.
