Bhubaneswar: The state government would establish vigilance courts in Dhenkanal and Angul soon, said Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik while addressing the valedictory of Vigilance Awareness Week at Rabindra Mandap here Monday.
Vigilance Awareness Week is being observed throughout the country since 2000 as per the directives of Central Vigilance Commission as part of its anti-corruption campaign. It was observed from October 31 to November 5 this year.
Apart from the Chief Minister, state chief information commissioner Sunil Kumar Mishra, Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha MP Prasanna Kumar Patasani, Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi, and vigilance director RP Sharma attended the meet.
The CM said, “In order to strengthen the vigilance department, we have established vigilance offices in every revenue district. The government has already set up two vigilance courts in Sundargarh and Cuttack. Two more vigilance courts will be established in Dhenkanal and Angul soon.”
Underlining the importance of modern technology in reducing corruption, the CM said, “It has been our endeavour to introduce technological innovations, especially use of information technology (IT), which will enable people to avail various services and facilities offered by the government.” Many official processes have been made online to bring in transparency and objectivity, he added.
The Chief Minister also distributed prizes to winners of various competitions held during Vigilance Awareness Week.
Addressing the gathering, the vigilance director said last year the department had registered 464 cases as compared to 449 this year so far.
“We have booked 64 Class-I, 74 Class-II and 315 Class-III officers in several corruptions cases during the last five years (2011-15). We had arrested 288 persons in various cases and forwarded them to the court in 2015, whereas 285 accused have been arrested in 2016 till now. They include 29 Class-I and 27 Class-II officers,” he added.
