Vigilance arrests panchayat head clerk in DA case

Jharsuguda: Vigilance sleuths Saturday arrested the head clerk of Jharsuguda panchayat office on charges of him amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

The accused has been identified as Benudhara Chachana.

According to a vigilance officer, acting on the allegations against the clerk, a team of the anti-corruption wing carried out the raid at Benudhara’s residence in Beimunda and his paternal property in Aitapada village under Laikera block in Jharsuguda.

During the raid they seized several incriminating documents. The details regarding the total value of assets owned by the clerk would be ascertained after the completion of the raids, informed an official. The raid was underway at the time last reports came in.

In another similar instance, a clerk of the Labour Department – identified Ballabh Nag — was caught on camera while demanding and accepting a bribe from a person in Bolangir district Saturday.
