Vigilance raids on CHSE man’s homes

Bhubaneswar: The Vigilance department Saturday conducted a series of searches on the properties and premises of Council of Higher Secondary Education strong-room in-charge Surya Narayan Mohanty, over the disproportionate assets case filed against him.
Vigilance sleuths searched Mohanty’s residential house at Forest Park, a building over Mahabir lane at Samantarapur, a flat at Jyosna Garden apartment in Sastri Nagar and the Officer Chamber located near Doordarshan here. Raids simultaneously progressed at the paternal house of Mohanty in Kulantira in Khurda and his father-in-law’s house in Puri.
The searches were done on the strength of a search warrant issued by the special judge, Vigilance, here.
The anti-corruption wing has calculated so far that Mohanty possessed assets worth at least `79.6lakh. It could be much higher, too. The cost of some houses and plots of Mohanty was found to be of around `50 lakh. Gold ornaments weighing 120 grams and worth `3 lakh, a WagonR of `5 lakh, a Yamaha Fazer motorcycle worth `1 lakh and household articles worth `6 lakh have also been detected. Mohanty, a Class-III employee. has bank deposits and investments worth around `10 lakh.
Vigilance officials said the search as also the verification of documents was on.
