Vigilance raids on crorepati Anganwadi worker’s properties

Kendrapara: Vigilance sleuths of Kendrapara along with their Cuttack counterparts Saturday conducted raids at the properties of Anganwadi worker Sailendri Dhal, wife of Saroj Dhal, of Balabhadrapur, for accumulating assets disproportionate to her known sources of income, Vigilance inspector Manoranjan Paikaray said.

Five teams comprising 40 anti-corruption officials conducted simultaneous raids at five properties of Sailendri. The properties included her Balabhadrapur residence, her flattened rice mill at Madanpur, a three-storied building at Bhubaneswar, a ‘sattu’ manufacturing unit at Balabhadrapur, and a rented house  at Balabhadrapur where black grams and other crops were stored, said Ananta Narayan Mohanty, DSP of Vigilance, Cuttack, who was leading the teams.

The sleuths found landed property worth of Rs 1.7 crore, Rs 2.59 lakh in cash and gold ornaments worth of Rs 83,000 in the name of Shailendri. They also found 12 bank accounts, two pick-up vans and two SUVs. The value of the three-storied building at Bhubaneswar would be more than Rs 20 lakh.

As per preliminary inquiry, the anganwadi worker has amassed disproportionate of assets worth more than Rs 2 crore, said Mohanty.  PNN
