Malkangiri: In a glaring example of superstition, a sorcerer was caught on camera biting parts of a woman’s body in Kalimela block to cure her fever.
Sources said, Dule Beti, 38, of Urmaguda in Telarai panchayat has been suffering from high fever for three days. She also showed signs of shivering and stomach pain. Instead of visiting a doctor, she went to a sorcerer named Kosa Beti.
In the video, the quack was seen performing rituals and feeding Dule some herbal potion. He also fanned her body with a peacock feather. Then to everyone’s shock he began biting Dule in different areas of her body to cure her.
When asked, Kosa swore that he had cured victims of dog bites and snakebites using the method.
Meanwhile, some locals alleged that medical teams cannot reach their village and so they have no option. Anganwadi workers said superstition still prevailed in the village and due to that many lose their lives before seeking medical assistance.
Superstitious practices are prevalent in Malkanagiri where tribals visit quacks instead of visiting hospitals for treatment.
