Villagers demand PMGSY road

Chandragiri: Resentment brewed among villagers of Jodipathar and Landaguda in Mohana block of Gajapati district as no road has been constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) in their area although a PMGSY plaque was put up in 2017.

The villagers said there was no road to their area, and that it is impossible to even cycle on the available road as it is filled with potholes. The villagers had been urging the administration to include their village in PMGSY to get road connectivity. So the administration had put a plaque of PMGSY in 2017 naming two villages.

The overwhelmed villagers had given land for constructing the road thinking that they will soon get a good road. But the administration has not started construction of the road.

As per the plaque work should have been started October 18, 2017 and ended July 17, 2019. The cost of the project was estimated at Rs 1.50 crore.

Ghanashyam Construction Company had won the tender. The company had made two culverts on two sides of the road. After that it abandoned work.

The villagers have to go to Chandipur for education, healthcare and for their daily needs. It is difficult for them to take patients to hospital as ambulances cannot come to their village.

The villagers informed MP Chandrasekhar Sahoo about the matter. Chandrasekhar himself called the department engineer, but the officers and the contractor blamed each other.

Engineer Naren Reddy said although they have been sending letters to Ghanashyam Construction Company, the latter is yet to respond.
