Villagers get no joy from administration, students repair road

Attabira: After repeated attempts by Naikenpali villagers to get their main road repaired fell on deaf ears of local administration, students of this village under Kadobahal panchayat in Attabira block of Bargarh district joined their hands together and repaired the Naikenpali -Shreeramnagar road Thursday on their own.

While the village road is manageable in rest of the year, in rainy season, the villagers– particularly the college and school going students — find negotiating this muddy road a harrowing experience.

The villagers have been taking up the matter with the administration since last year to no avail.

The students decided they had had enough of step motherly treatment of the administration and collected spades, crow bars and baskets from their houses and leveled out about 1km of the village road.

When asked, Kadobahal panchayat executive officer Ramesh Behera said the panchayat is no longer getting any grant for road construction. The road will be repaired temporarily from the panchayat fund.

Similarly, Kadobahal panchayat sarpanch Padmalaya Kalet said 50 trips of earth and sand had been laid out on the road last year.

When contacted, block development officer (BDO) Pranab Kumar Chand said steps for repair and construction of the road would soon be taken.
