Villagers gherao PS over assault on BSF jawan’s kin

Saranda (Bargarh): Atabira police in Bargarh district faced the ire of locals after they allegedly assaulted the family of a BSF jawan posted in Meghalaya late Sunday night.

 

The villagers gheraoed the police station demanding stringent action against the cops accused of the assault. They also lodged a complaint in the police station. Sensing trouble, police personnel were deployed at the spot to ward off any untoward situation.

On being informed, SDPO Khirasagar Nayak rushed to the spot and tried to placate the agitators by holding discussions with them. However, the agitators refused to relent until action was taken against the policemen involved in the assault.

 

According to reports, the jawan Chandrasekhar Bag is posted in Meghalaya. The incident occurred when his siblings Ram, Gobind and cousin Parameshwar were going to Debahal station near Atabira to receive Chandrasekhar who was returning home by the Yashwantpur- Hatia Express.

Ram, Gobind and Parameshwar were going on their bikes when police personnel on night patrolling stopped them at Hospital Square and questioned them about moving in the area at late night.

 

They revealed that they were going to Debahal railway station to receive Chandrasekhar and even showed the police a copy of the latter’s identity card which they had received from him via WhatsApp. However, the police refused to buy their claim and beat them up.

After reports surfaced, hundreds of villagers gheraoed the police station and staged a demonstration demanding action against the errant police personnel.
