Villagers thrash wanted criminal

Jaleswar: A youth, said to be related to a minister from Balasore, was thrashed by villagers at Balim panchayat under Bhograi block here Sunday when he tried to terrorise the people by brandishing a pistol.

The accused was identified as Jaga Das, son of Gourang Das, samiti member of Balim panchayat. He was wanted by the police in several criminal cases.

Jaga was coming home along with Amar Dey, a resident of Nachhinda, on his bike. However, Jaga had a tiff with two youths – Sushant Kar and Sanjib Kar – at Ambiliatha, for some reason.

Infuriated, Jaga attacked the two with a sharp-edged weapon. As the two screamed for help, the villagers came to their rescue.

On seeing a huge crowd, the accused brandished a pistol and terrorised them. However, the people overpowered him and beat him black and blue after tying him to a pole.

The two injured were admitted to GK Bhatar Hospital. Police seized a pistol, a bike, a number plate and some cash from Jaga.

Following a complaint, the police registered a case against him.

It was learnt that Jaga had been in jail for his complicity in robbery, loot, fraud and murder cases.
