Incidents of negligence are often reported in government schools, but a shocking case from Odisha’s Keonjhar district has left people stunned. At the Government Upper Primary School in Anjar under Banspal block, an eight-year-old girl, Jyotsna Dehuri, who had come to attend classes, fell asleep in her classroom.
Shockingly, the teachers and staff failed to check the premises before closing the school for the day. They locked the building and went home, leaving the child inside.
When Jyotsna did not return home by evening, her worried parents began searching for her, but she was nowhere to be found. The truth came to light only the next morning—she had been left locked inside the school overnight. In a desperate attempt to escape, she tried to crawl out through a window, but her neck became stuck between the iron bars, leaving her trapped in pain and fear throughout the night.
