Voter, PAN cards for Bangladeshi youth in Malkangiri

Kalimela: Despite multiple precautions by the police as well as the district administration to check infiltration, a youth from Bangladesh managed to get a voter identity card and a PAN card in his name in Malkangiri district.

The incident, posing threat to internal security of the state, occurred in MPV -66 village of Kalmetala panchayat under the local police limits.

According to reports, the youth identified as Manas Ray, son of Manoranjan Ray of Debapada village under Fakirhat police limits of Bagirhat district of Bangladesh, had been staying with Prafulla Ray of the village. This was the address mentioned in his passport. The youth first managed to get a visa to travel to India. The visa was valid from August 17, 2014 to February 16, 2015.

However, it was alleged that Manas, in a bid to become an Indian citizen, managed to avail a voter identity card and PAN card in the area. The voter identity card revealed that the youth succeeded in getting the cards by mentioning Prafulla Ray as his father. Managing important documents like voter identity card and PAN card by a foreigner without the knowledge of administration poses serious threats to the security of the nation, locals said.

A thorough probe would bring several such cases into light in other villages of this district as well, they added.

Such incidents indicate that the state is being considered a safe haven by foreigners to evade watchful eyes of Indian Army, BSF and intelligence officials, analysts said. PNN
