VSSUT students withdraw strike, normalcy restored

Sambalpur: The students’ union strike at Veer Surendra Sai University and Technology (VSSUT) came to an end Thursday with an amicable settlement after the university authorities agreed for formation of an academic council to look into the year back issue.

The students were sitting on the road in front of the university protesting the year back system that hampered their career. They alleged that the year back system is done with an ulterior intention against them and in protest they locked up the main gate of the university and sat on the road.

The new students of first-year engineering and other courses who came for admission had to face a difficult situation to enter into the campus Wednesday.

The agitating students, however, later allowed them to enter the campus for admission – which was done by the Dean of the university along with the non-teaching staff owing to teachers’ agitation.

The alleged dispute between vice-chancellor Atal Choudhury and the teachers association was resolved later in the day with both parties agreeing to bring back peaceful atmosphere in the campus. That said, some of the teachers were seen still sitting on a dharna inside the campus till last reports came in.
