Berhampur: In a crackdown on criminals, Ganjam police Sunday arrested Pramod Barik (29) following an encounter near Palur area here. He was in the most wanted list of Ganjam police, cops said.
According to police officials, acting on a tip-off, police launched a raid on him at around 3:50am in the wee hours Sunday.
Seeing the cops, he tried to flee in order to evade arrest. This led to an exchange of fire between the cops and Barik in which the criminal sustained bullet injuries on his right leg. At least two constables also sustained injuries in the incident.
Pramod was initially rushed to a nearby hospital at Chhatrapur and later was shifted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital at Berhampur.
A motorcycle, one handgun and two live cartridges were seized by the cops from his possession.
The accused has a number of cases pending against him at various police stations which include the recent murderous attack on Sudhir Padhi of Ganjam.
