Warriors waltz into quarters

Bhubaneswar: Oriental Warriors cruised into the quarterfinals of the B Division of the Gati Krushna Memorial Football League thrashing Friends Club 7-0 in a pre-quarterfinal match here Friday.
Adarsha Das stole the show scoring four goals including a hat-trick. He struck in the 14th, 42nd, 63rd and 70th minutes respectively. Bickey Sethy (20th), Anil Samal (31st) and Mahesh Singh (50th) were the other scorers.
Friends Club were virtually hapless spectators during the game. They could rarely take the ball to the opposition half.
Global Sporting will meet Gopabandhu Youth Association in another pre-quarterfinal match Saturday.
Warm welcome
Five mountaineers of Orissa were given a grand welcome by Association for Adventure and Social Activities (AASA) members at the Bhubaneswar Railway station upon their arrival Friday after successfully completing an advanced mountaineering course at Kashmir and Leh. They are Chinmaya Moharana, Nrusingha Sahu, Nitu Bisoi, Sasmita Pradhan and Smita Rani Behera.
AASA secretary Ganesh Jena, vice-president Saroj Muduli and adviser Ashok Mohanty felicitated the emerging mountaineers. Under the guidance of Ganesh all the climbers have completed the course. Chinmaya and Nursingha have also successfully reached atop the 6,150 metres Mt Kangri.
Chess tourney
DAV Public School, Kalinga Nagar will organise the Xth School’s Open Chess Championship in its premises here, starting October 8. School students of Orissa are eligible to participate in this seven round Swiss tournament. The competition will be played under five categories.
OOA AGM
The annual general meeting of the Orissa Olympic Association (OOA) was held at the association’s hall in Cuttack, Friday. Electoral officer SR Parija declared the results of the recently-concluded election. The budget for the 2016-17 season was also passed in the meeting.
