Wealth creators should not be eyed with suspicion: PM Modi

New Delhi: Voicing his support for industry, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Thursday said that wealth creators should not be viewed with suspicion as wealth can be distributed only when it is created.

Addressing the nation on the 73rd Independence Day, the Prime Minister emphasised that wealth creation is a national service and those who create wealth should be respected.

“Wealth creation is a great national service. Let us never see wealth creators with suspicion,” Modi said.

“Only when wealth is created, wealth will be distributed. Wealth creation is absolutely essential. Those who create wealth are India’s wealth and we respect them,” he added.

This message comes at a time when concerns are being raised over the increasing harassment of corporates by tax officials.

In a media interview earlier, the Prime Minister had said that he has ordered measures to check such harassment.

Further, in a bid to clamp down on unauthorised notices and summons to corporates and individuals the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) on Wednesday announced the introduction of a computer-generated Document Identification Number (DIN) system, which will be quoted in any notice issued by its officials.

The Prime Minister’s remarks from the ramparts of Red Fort come in the context of repeated accusations by political adversaries that he is close to industry and that he favours a few industrialists.
