BHUBANESWAR: Bhubaneswar Ladies Circle-12 in association with Parichay Foundation inaugurated a Sanitary Napkin manufacturing unit at a hotel here Monday.
The unit would be installed at Kalyanpur village and would be run by women residing in the village. Chief Guest Priyadarshi Mishra, MLA, Bhubaneswar North, inaugurated the unit along with the Guest of Honour Padma Shree Ileana Citaristi and Latika Pradhan, Chairman, Social Welfare Board.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairperson, Bhubaneswar Ladies Circle-12, Nancy Khimji said, “With this endeavor of ours, we hope that the society rejects the stigma the associated with menstrual cycle. We also hope that this initiative generates employment for 20 families. We also hope that women come out and speak on the issue.”
The unit would be managed by Parichay foundation and the responsibility of marketing of the product would be borne jointly by the foundation and Bhubaneswar Ladies Circle.
Rosalin Patasani Mishra said “We have undertaken this initiative to provide hygienic sanitary napkins to women at the cheapest prices. Every woman should be provided with the means to lead a healthy life. A number of women in the district are suffering from reproductive tract related diseases as they were not using hygienic napkins during menstruation. The unit would go a long way in overcoming such issues.”
Establishment of this manufacturing unit is a welcome step in ensuring a dignified life for underprivileged girls and promoting sanitary hygiene among women. More than 300 million women and girls in India do not have access to safe menstrual hygiene products which endangers their health and curtails their education.
