Nabarangpur: WhatsApp can do magic. This was what happened in case of a missing person.
An elderly and mentally deranged person missing from Mayurbhanj district years back was rescued by his family members in Nabarangpur with information uploaded on WhatsApp.
According to reports, Kamal Lochan Mohant (55) was missing from his home at Takurpada under Jamukhanjari block in Mayurbhanj district. He was mentally unstable, according to his family members. People had spotted him roaming in various parts of Nabarangpur in tattered clothes and with disheveled hair.
He had broken his right leg and was found shuffling in and around Nabarangpur district headquarters hospital area. He survived on offerings from others at roadside hotels or even picked up leftovers on roadsides.
September 1 was a lucky day for Mohant. Debraj Harijan, a resident of Chatahandi village under Nabarangpur bliock, was on his way home at night when he spotted Mohant roaming on Beheraguda roadside in Agnipur panchayat. Harijan took pity on him and sought o know his identity. What Kamal Lochan muttered was his address. Harijan took a picture of the old man on his cell phone.
On reaching home, Harijan searched his address via Google search engine and managed to find cell phone numbers of a teacher and CRCC of Thakurpada block.
Harijan had sent the picture of Kamal Lochan to cell phone of teacher Loknath Mohant and urged the teacher to inform his family.
Besides, Harijan had informed the SP office of Mayurbhanj about Kamal Lochan. Kamal’s bother Jogendra Mohant, his nephews Karamchand Mohant and Sashibhusan Saturday reached Nabarangpur and contacted Debaraj.
Kamal Lochan was on the verandah of a shop at Harligan Chhak. His broken leg was wrapped with tattered clothes weighing about six to seven kgs. He was brought back to village Saturday. PNN
