White tiger Subhranshu falls sick in Nandankanan

Bhubaneswar: White tiger Subhranshu, one of the major draws of Nandankanan Zoological Park, is unwell. The health of this five years old rare male tiger has been a cause for concern for the zoo authorities here.

After a series of elephant deaths in the past one month due to the spread of herpes virus at the Nandankanan Zoological Park, the white tiger has been taken ill in the zoo since Sunday and a team of doctors have been carrying out necessary treatment of the white tiger.

Zoo deputy director Jayant Das said various body samples of the tiger have been sent for laboratory examination and the exact reason behind its sickness can only be ascertained only after the health report. It is stated that Subhranshu is suffering from indigestion possibly due to liver-related problems.

Earlier last month, a tigress named Priyanka succumbed to age-related sickness at the zoo.

Notably, Subranshu was born in 2014. There are 26 tigers, including this white tiger at Nandankanan. Meanwhile, Central Zoo Authority Member-Secretary SP Yadav visited Nandankanan Wednesday and held discussions with the zoo authorities about the death of elephants.
