Kendujhar: The Forest department Sunday arrested the main accused in a wildlife poaching case following a raid in the Telkoi forest range of Kendujhar district.
The accused has been identified as Gurucharan Naik, a resident of Golgadia village near Bhimkand under Telkoi police limits, the Forest department said in a press release. Kendujhar DFO Dhanraj HD said, “An OR Case No. 20-T/2026-27 was registered against the accused under Section 51(1) of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.
He was arrested and produced before a court Sunday.
The accused allegedly hunted a wild boar by laying an electric wire snare in the forest.
The practice poses a serious threat not only to wildlife but also to human life, the Forest department said.
The case dates back to July 25, when forest officials of the Telkoi range received information that an electric wire had been laid and connected to a power source at an orchard in Udayagiri.
During a raid, officials seized the carcass of a wild boar, about 1.5 kg of GI wire, four feet of electric wire and other materials allegedly used for hunting.
In connection with the case, Lulu Munda of Golgadia village was arrested July 27 and forwarded to court.
The Forest department subsequently continued its investigation and arrested Gurucharan Naik, described as the main accused in the case, Sunday.
