Baripada: Incidents of wildfire were reported from three locations in Similipal reserve forest Wednesday, a source said.

According to range officer Madan Mohan Mahanta, the fire was detected with the help of satellite inflation Monday night. The forest fire was detected in upper part of Similipal in three locations – Anantapur, Patharkhani and Khandachira Monday night.

After getting information, fire services personnel, forest and security personnel rushed to the spots to douse the rapidly growing flames. They were successful in extinguishing the fire in some locations but the situation is still not under control in some of the areas, said Mahanta.

The main reason behind the wildfire outbreak is still unclear.

It can be mentioned here that Odisha reported the highest number of forest fire incidents in the country between February 1 and February 8 with 578 cases, according to Forest Survey of India (FSI) report.
