Baripada: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said he will strive hard to see Orissa as a developed state by ensuring participation of people in all sectors.
Addressing a public meeting at Jashipur in Mayurbhanj district Wednesday, he said his government has achieved growth in agriculture, education and health sectors.
Patnaik laid foundation stones for a host of development projects in several blocks during a whirlwind tour of the district ahead of panchayat elections.
On arrival at Jashipur in a helicopter, the Chief Minister unveiled plaques for 25 projects at Mahardapalas football ground. Patnaik gave away pension to 150 beneficiaries, land pattas to 315 people, work orders to 57 persons and assistance to 25 construction workers.
Among others, Rajya Sabha MP Sarojini Hembram, Deputy Speaker Sananda Marandi, sports and youth affairs minister Sudam Marndi, Badasahi MLA Ganeswar Patra, Karanjia MLA Bijay Nayak and Jashipur MLA Mangal Singh addressed the meeting.
Youth Congress activists had shown black flags and one of them hurled an egg at the stage where the CM was sitting at Suliapada government high school field, a district police official said.
Following the incident, police swung into action and a scuffle took place between the police and the activists.
Rishitosh Patra, a student Congress activist, was arrested by police on charge of hurling egg targeting the Chief Minister, SDPO Abhiram Nayak said.
The officer, however, claimed that the egg did not hit the Chief Minister or others sitting on the dais.
Police had earlier detained over 50 BJP activists, including its district president Krushna Chandra Mohapatra and 14 Congress workers before the tour of Patnaik.
The CM addressed meetings at Badachatara, Bahalda, Rairangpur, Jharpokharia and Mohardapalasa. PNN
