Christchurch, Feb 21: Pakistan suffered their second successive reverse as they were handed a crushing 150-run defeat by the West Indies who rode on Andre Russell’s all-round show in a completely one-sided cricket World Cup match here Saturday.

Russell 42(13b, 3×4, 4×6) propelled the Windies past the 300-run mark after half centuries from Denesh Ramdin (51, 43b, 7×4) and Lendl Simmons (50, 46b, 4×4, 2×6) had laid the platform for the assault. Then when Pakistan batted he (3/33) bowled a hostile spell and restricted then to 160 at the Hagley Oval.

Opting to field after winning the toss, Pakistan let the West Indies off the hook after reducing them to 28 for two as the Caribbeans posted a dominating total scoring 115 runs in the final 10 overs. Butter-fingered Pakistan fielders put down four catches while their bowlers, except Mohammad Irfan (1/44) and Shahid Afridi (0/48), bled runs at nearly seven an over.

Pakistan’s hopes of chasing the stiff target virtually ended in within four overs of the starts as they lost four wickets with only a single run on board. And when skipper Misbah ul-Haq left with score reading 25, the writing was clear on the wall. They could never recover after that even though Shoaib Maqsood (50, 66b, 4×4, 1×6) and Umar Akmal (59, 71b, 5×4, 1×6) put up a semblance of resistance to take Pakistan past the 150-run mark.

Pacer Jerome Taylor (3/15) rocked the Pakistan top-order by while left-arm spinner Sulieman Benn took two wickets. Captain Jason Holder and Darren Sammy chipped in with a wicket each.
