Bhubaneswar, July 19: Seminaked kids with layers of dust on their faces, uncombed hairs and parched lips, kicking a plastic bucket or bottles bare feet right next to a heap of garbage—it’s a common sight in every Indian city. But, these kids may also have the talent to become football stars. Considering the same, two voluntary organisations in the city are organising a talent hunt programme and a football training camp for underprivileged kids from July 22 to July 23 at Kishore Club ground in Unit 1 area here. Sahil Sahi a player from Arsenal Club, Delhi will train the slum kids. This event has also been conceptualised by Sahi. He is a resolute football player. He has been playing football since the age of 10, and wants to spread the love he shares for the game with others. He represented Arsenal Soccer Schools India in the Mare Nostrum Cup in Spain. He also played for the academy in several leagues. Being a football lover, his motive behind organising this camp is to take the sports to children from every section of the society.
“We are working for the underprivileged children since last seven years. Thus, we agreed to help and support the player in his mission,”said Abhaya Mohanta of the voluntary organisation. Participants will watch a video presentation highlighting the skill sets required for football. Thereafter, they will be made to practice the sport. A match will be conducted to choose the best players. These selected few will get free training at Arsenal Club, Delhi for a year. More than 30 underprivileged kids will join the event from different foster care homes in the city. “We will give them football shoes and jerseys. Participation certificate will also be provided to each of the participants,” said the organiser
