Bhubaneswar, Oct 6: The students’ election in the state for the year 2016 has finally come to an end as the winners of the different institutions in the state have taken their pledge in the oath taking ceremony for their respective posts.
Mahesh Prasad was the newly elected president for Utkal University. “I believe in going forward and my primary focus is to fulfill all the promises I had made during my campaign,” he said in his acceptance speech. He also thanked the police and the university’s staff for doing their best in maintaining a peaceful environment throughout the election process.
Ipsita Sahoo was elected as the new general secretary for the academic year. She said that her focus would be to get A+ accreditation from the national assessment and accreditation council (NAAC) for the university. Only six institutes from 149 colleges have received the A rating and none have received the above said accreditation. RK Bal, the chairman of Utkal varsity, administered the oath ceremony.
At Ramadevi Women’s University, independent candidate Anasuya Tripathy took oath as the new president, while Sangita Parida swore in as the general secretary. Vice Chancellor Padma Mishra administered the ceremony at the institute. “My aim is to improve the water availability and class room facilities among others. I am also aiming to improve the decorum of our university,” Anasuya said at the ceremony.
Swagatika Mohanty of the University Law College swore in as the president for the academic year, while Silvassa Badajena took oath as general secretary. Swagatika said she would make effort to make her campus enabled with Wi-Fi connectivity, lighten the area with LED bulbs, renovate the parking space and construct new hostels.
The institutes, which were declared to be closed for October 7, were expected to start functioning October 17.
