Bhubaneswar, August 10: Laxmisagar police Wednesday arrested four persons including a woman for allegedly possessing brown sugar weighing 42 gram.
The arrested are: Asiya Bibi (30), her brother-in-law Arif Khan alias Babu Khan (30), Dilip Singh (51) and Sampad Das (34), all residents of Haldipadia slum in Laxmisagar.
Police said they raided Bibi’s house on a tip-off and seized 42 gram brown sugar from their possession. Bibi’s family has been involved in brown sugar business for long, they added.
Bibi was convicted by the District Court last year but she had later challenged the order in the High Court. Bibi has been out on bail. Lawyer Suchitra Routray, who defended her in District Court, however, said police have been framing Bibi’s family in the case again and again without any evidence.
As many as 14 mobile phones and `1.05 lakh were also seized from the four accused.
