Bhubaneswar: In a bizarre incident, a woman claiming to be the wife of BJD MLA Braja Kishore Pradhan, attempted to commit suicide in front of Naveen Nivas, the residence of the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
The woman, Sonalika Mohanty, claimed in spite of marrying her, the incumbent Talcher MLA has refused to accept her as his wife. As she was not allowed to meet the Chief Minister, she cut the vein of her left arm opposite the Chief Minister’s residence demanding justice.

Thereafter, Deputy Commissioner of Police (security) immediately rushed the profusely bleeding woman to the Capital Hospital. Speaking to reporters, Mohanty said, “I know attempting to commit suicide is an offence, but I had no other option as our CM is not paying heed to my problems. I may not get justice, but I want the case to continue after my death. Next time I will do something bigger to get justice.”
Incidentally, for over a year, the BJD MLA from Talcher has been under the spotlight for his alleged relation with the young woman.
