Woman charred to death

Binka: In a gruesome incident, a 24-year-old married woman was charred to death while valuables worth lakhs of rupees were reduced to ashes in a massive fire that broke out at Ghodadhar village under this police limits in Sonepur district Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Sanjukta Bagh, wife of Arjun Bagh (28) of the same village. Sources said the incident occurred while Arjun’s family members were fast asleep. Fire started from an unknown source leading to the mishap, sources added.

Locals tried to rescue the couple but in vain. They managed to rescue Arjun from the house while Sanjukta was charred as the fire engulfed the whole house. On being alerted, fire brigade personnel reached the village and doused the flames. They later recovered the charred body of Sanjukta.

Police registered a case of unnatural death and sent the body for post-mortem. An investigation into the matter was launched while the exact reason of the fire count not be ascertained. Six rooms, electronic gadgets, five sacks of paddy, four packets of rice, household items and many important documents were gutted in the mishap.

Binka BDO Ashok Bhoi, Sonepur SDPO Bhawani Shankar Udgata, Binka IIC Reena Behera reached the village and took stock of the situation. PNN
