Chhendipada: A woman of Chhendipada block in Angul district delivered quadruplets at the community health centre Thursday night.
While all the babies died soon after their birth, the mother’s health condition was stated to be critical and was undergoing treatment at Angul district headquarters hospital.
According to sources, the expectant mother complained of labour pain Thursday following which she was taken to the community health centre. However, while she was on the way to the hospital, she delivered two babies and later, when she reached the hospital, she gave birth to two others.
While three of the quadruplets died at the hospital, the mother and the only baby, who was alive, were shifted to the district headquarters hospital as their condition became critical. Even though the woman could be admitted to the hospital, the baby died on the way.
During her pregnancy, doctors learnt that the woman had four foetuses in her womb.
After getting advice from a senior Gynaecology and Obstetrics specialist, the doctors had provided a red card to the woman, sources said.
Though the woman’s husband is a farmer, their financial condition is very weak.
Therefore, family members and locals have urged the state government to bear the cost of treatment of the woman.
