Woman dies after fall from roof of 4-storey building

Paradip: An unidentified woman died reportedly after falling from the terrace of a four-storey building at Tarin igada area under Paradip police limits in Jagatsinghpur district Monday morning. The woman sustained a severe head injury due to the fall and was bleeding profusely. She was reportedly found in a semi-nude condition after the fall.

On being informed, personnel from the Model police station reached the spot and launched an investigation with the help of a scientific team. The hard disk of a computer containing footage of CCTV cameras installed in the house has been seized for examination.

Police have detained seven out of nine bachelor tenants staying on the fourth floor of the building for questioning. Partially burnt cigarettes, gutkha sachets and a pair of women’s slippers were found on the terrace. The woman’s clothes were torn and caught on a water supply pipe when she allegedly fell from the roof. The house belongs to Shambhu Khuntia, a businessman from Badapadia Bazaar. Though renovation work was underway and most rooms were vacant, nine bachelors had reportedly been staying on the topmost floor for the past eight days. The incident has triggered widespread speculation in the area.

Additional SP Smruti Ranjan Kar said the identity of the deceased woman is yet to be ascertained. Police are investigating all angles. “Some preliminary clues have been obtained. The exact cause of her death will be clear after the post-mortem report, CCTV footage analysis and the scientific team’s findings are received,” he said.
