Bhubaneswar: A woman was allegedly duped of Rs 8 lakh by a man who had promised to arrange for her the job of an actress in a television serial.
The victim, Damini Behera (name changed on request), lodged a complaint at Laxmisagar police station Sunday saying that she had made the payments to the accused in three installments in the span of a month and that all the payments were through transfers to his bank account.
Narrating her ordeal, the woman, a resident of Mahavir Nagar at Samantarapur and in her late 20s, said she had called the telephone number appearing in an online advertisement offering jobs in TV serials. “A man named Dushmant Behera, aged about 40, responded to my call and said he runs an acting school in Sunderpada area named Sai Acting Centre,” she told Orissa POST .
After the accused promised her a job in a TV serial, she got herself registered at his institute by paying him `1 lakh. “I paid in three installments within a month through bank account transfers,” said Behera, who has given all the money-transfer details to Laxmisagar police and a copy of the agreement where the man purportedly promised her the job of an actress in a TV serial in return for the money he received. She said she never got any offer for the job of an actress.
Dushmant Behera, according to the victim, would often come with good-looking girls and boys in tow and that he introduced them as actors and actresses. “Those girls would say that they are already working in TV serials after being launched by this man. I really thought he was a television serial director or something,” she said.
Urging the intervention of police in getting her money back, the victim doubted if Dushmant Behera really owned the acting school because he had shown the school to her only from the outside. Laxmisagar police are investigating the matter. Efforts by OP to contact Dushmant Behera could not come through.
