Bhandaripokhari: A woman entrepreneur was allegedly defrauded of Rs 13.5 lakh on the promise of arranging a loan of Rs 15 crore for the revival of a defunct rice mill in the Bhandaripokhari police station area of Bhadrak district. The woman, identified as Sanghamitra Panda, was introduced to Jitendra Jain by a chartered accountant Bijay Bal. Jain allegedly promised to arrange an Rs 15 crore loan and demanded an advance payment as commission.
Hoping to secure the loan, Panda paid Rs 13.5 lakh to Jain through five bank cheques between December 3 and December 7 last year. However, the promised loan was not sanctioned. After waiting for a long time, Panda realized that she had been defrauded and lodged a complaint at the Bhandaripokhari police station September 22. Police registered a case (462/26) against Jain and Bal under various sections Wednesday night. Police said the addresses of both the complainant and the accused were not mentioned in the complaint.
