Taking one day off is probably good for breaking the monotony of work and way of increasing your efficiency at work. People make all different types of excuses to skip work. But, a woman from US went the extra mile to get leave.
In a bizarre incident, a woman from the US allegedly faked being pregnant to get paid time off work. However, her colleagues grew suspicious when they saw her ‘baby bump’ come away from her body, and noticed her baby photos featured children with “varying skin tones”.
Robin Folsom, who worked as Director of External Affairs at Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency, told her bosses in October 2020 that she was expecting a baby and arranged to take maternity leave.
The 43-year-old was on a $100,000 a year salary and wanted to swindle $15,000 in paid leave, the Georgia Office of the Inspector General said.
However, in March 2021, a co-worker paid attention to the lower portion of Robin’s stomach “come away” from her body which made them think that she wore a fake pregnancy stomach.
Folsom even made up a fake father by the name of Bran Otmembebwe who emailed her former bosses to say she was under doctor’s orders to stay at home for several weeks of bed rest after the apparent birth in May 2021. She was given seven weeks of paid leave.
After she “gave birth”, Robin sent baby photos to several colleagues but they didn’t all appear to be of the same baby. The images “depicted children with varying skin tones.”
She had also claimed to have previously given birth in July 2020. However, investigators could find no official records of Robin having given birth and her medical insurance records didn’t show any charges for prenatal exams or a delivery.
Robin resigned from her job in October 2021 after being interviewed about fake pregnancies. She insisted Otmembebwe was a real person and the father of her child.
