Woman force-fed poison in Angul

Angul: In a shocking incident, a woman was left battling for life after she was allegedly forced to drink poison for demanding her money back from a person who had taken it.

The heinous incident has been reported from Sarangpur village under Bantala police limits in this district Thursday.

While the woman is critical in a hospital, the matter came to the fore after her six-year-old son, only witness of the case, revealed the bone-chilling incident to cops. The boy alleged that her mother was beaten up and forced to drink poison when she asked her money back.

The woman has been identified as Sukanti Pradhan of Gurudhi village under Purunakote police limits. Sukanti has been admitted at the district headquarters hospital in a serious condition.

According to the allegation of Sukanti’s son, she had lent some money to a person of Sarangpur village. Despite several reminders, he did not return the money. Wednesday evening, Sukanti had gone to Sarangpur to get her money back with her son. But she never returned till midnight.

Thursday morning some villagers rescued her and intimated to her family. “At that time, my mother told me that the borrower and some of his associates had attempted to eliminate her by forcing her to drink poison,” said the boy.

Purunakote IIC Dillip Kumar Sahoo said no police complaint is registered as yet.
