Karanjia: A woman was allegedly abducted and gangraped by four persons at a roadside dhaba under this police limits in Mayurbhanj district Tuesday night, police said Wednesday. Acting on a complaint lodged by the survivor’s kin, police registered a case (219/25) and detained an accused. The rest three accused are absconding after committing the crime, police said. The incident occurred at a time when the woman had come on a visit to her maternal uncle’s house under this police limits.

Sources said she was returning to her maternal uncle’s house after visiting a temple at around 4.30pm Tuesday. She was on her way back when the youths on a bike spotted her alone near a cashew forest and abducted her in a vehicle. They took her to a roadside dhaba in the area and took turns to rape her. The woman managed to return home after much effort and narrated her ordeal before the family members. Shocked kin complained to the Karanjia police station at 2.30 am, the same day. This incident comes within 10 days of the alleged gangrape of a college student at Gopalpur sea beach in Ganjam district.
