Baleshwar: A 65-year-old woman and her grandson died when a portion of a wall collapsed on them during heavy rain while they were asleep in Odisha’s Baleshwar district, police said Monday.
The incident occurred in Kapasuda village in Jaleswar block on Sunday night. The wall allegedly collapsed due to incessant rains for the last three days in the area, they said.
The deceased were identified as Radhika Jena (65) and her grandson Jyoti Prakash Swain (18), while granddaughter Smritirekha Swain sustained serious injury. The neighbour’s house wall fell on their asbestos roofed house Sunday night.
Though they were immediately rushed to the nearby hospital, doctors declared both the woman and her grandson dead. The granddaughter is under treatment, police said.
