Udala: Udala police in Mayurbhanj district arrested Tuesday an imposter who was trying to mortgage a plot of land along with others to a private finance firm for a loan by posing as the daughter of a deceased person.
The police have not divulged the identity of the accused woman, but it has been learnt that she is the aunt of Ashok Behera, son of the deceased Jagabandhu Behera. Jagabandhu was a native of Khadikapada village in Old Baripada area under Khunta police limits in Mayurbhanj district.
Police are now interrogating the accused to get her to confess her crime. Police said that Jagabandhu after his death left behind a homestead land on plot No-372 in Khadikapada mouza. He is survived by four persons, including his wife Sabitri Behera, sons Ashok and Saroj and daughter Manorama Sahu. Officially they are the inheritors to the property left behind by Jagabandhu.
The survivors of the deceased Jagabandhu applied for a loan of Rs5 lakh from a private finance firm. However, while doing so they used the aunt to represent Manorama.
The fraud however, came to light during examination of documents submitted to the sub-registrar. It was then discovered that one of the signatures did not match that of Manorama’s. It then came to light, that the ‘aunt’ had signed on the documents, instead of Manorama.
During scrutiny, officials also found that Aadhaar card submitted by the woman was fake as the fingerprints did not match. The sub-registrar then found out that the real Manorama was not in the picture and he stopped registration of the land being put up for loan.
Later, the sub-registrar lodged a complaint at Udala police station following which the woman was arrested. Police, however, remained tight-lipped about the involvement of the three others in the fraud attempt. They will produce the woman in court Wednesday.
