Raurkela: A shed under construction at the main entrance of Raurkela railway station collapsed Monday amid heavy rain, injuring a woman and damaging several vehicles, officials said. The shed collapsed around 8:30 am, sending iron angles crashing onto a car parked underneath.
Pranjal Jain, 44, of Steel Township, was injured while returning home after getting off an intercity train. She was taken to a private hospital for treatment. Her husband, Nilav Agrawal, and their child escaped unhurt. Several motorcycles and an auto-rickshaw were also damaged in the incident.
Senior Divisional Engineer (East) Ravi Shankar, IOW Tuhinkanta Satapathy and Assistant Security Commissioner HK Khan reached the site and supervised rescue and repair work. Shankar said construction of the shed had begun only recently and was being executed by a Jamshedpur-based contractor Sushil Mittal.
Officials said strict action would be taken over the collapse.
