Bhubaneswar: A woman who had jumped into Kuakhai river near Hanspal, on the outskirts of the Bhubaneswar to allegedly commit suicide was rescued from Balianta Monday.
According to eyewitnesses, the woman came on a scooter, parked it on the Kuakhai bridge and suddenly jumped into the water. It may be mentioned here that due to incessant rain the water level in the tributaries have risen.
On being informed by locals, police and fire officials rushed to the spot and rescued her near Balianta.
Although the reason behind the incident is not known, police suspect that the woman might have jumped into the river in an attempt to commit suicide.
Sources said that woman had a argument with her husband over some family issue and took the extreme step.
