Woman kidnapped, gangraped; 4 detained

Jharsuguda/Brajarajnagar: A 47-year-old woman was gangraped by miscreants who subsequently attempted to murder her in a bid to conceal their crime in Jharsuguda district.

Miscreants reportedly kidnapped the woman from her house and committed the heinous crime Thursday night. Later, they tried to strangulate her to death. The matter came to fore after some children while playing in the village spotted the victim lying unconscious and alerted the police Friday morning.

The incident was reported from Chichinda area under Brajarajnagar police limits.  According to police, the victim resided alone in a thatched house after being abandoned by her husband.

The house was damaged by rains that lashed the area over the last few days. Taking advantage of this, miscreants had earlier three days ago attempted to stray into her house using a ladder.

However, the victim woke up and drove them away by pelting stones at them. The miscreants again entered into the house, this time through the broken roof, Thursday night and kidnapped her.

They took her to an isolated place in the village where they took turns on her. Later, they strangulated her and fled the spot leaving her for dead.

Minor children playing around in the village spotted her lying unconscious without clothes and profusely bleeding. They alerted locals who informed the police. The police rescued and admitted her to Jharsuguda hospital.  Her condition was critical when this report was filed.

Police detained four suspects and are interrogating them, SP Umashankar Dash said. “We will soon crack the case after the statements of the victim are recorded,” Dash said, adding the miscreants would be traced if the victim recognises them.   PNN
