Reamal: A woman was allegedly raped by a fellow villager while she was returning home from work. The matter came to the fore after the victim filed a police complaint against the accused Saturday.
The heinous incident was reported from Arjunajhari under Reamal police limits in Sundargarh district. The accused has been identified as Basant Suhula (27).
According to the complaint, the woman had gone to her agricultural land Saturday morning to take stock of the submerged crops following heavy rain.
While she was returning home, Basant forcefully lifted her from the road and took her to a secluded place where he outraged her modesty.
Though the victim narrated her ordeal to the father of the accused, he verbally abused the victim and threatened her with dire consequences if she lodged a police complaint.
Acting on the victim’s complaint, police swung into action and started an investigation.
