Jharigam: A woman was killed while another sustained critical injuries after a mass of earth caved in on them at Bhejiguda village under this block in Nabarangpur district Sunday. The deceased was identified as Dukha Rana (30), wife of Padlam Rana while the critically injured was identified as Meena Rana (26), wife of Jagnu Rana of the same village.
According to sources, residents of Bhejiguda village earn their living by making pots. The incident occurred while the women had been to collect clay to make pots. A portion of earth caved in on them while they were digging the clay, sources said. The two were buried as the earth came crashing down on them. On learning the incident, locals rushed to the spot and dug the duo out. However, Dukha was already dead while Meena was rushed to the local hospital in critical condition.
On being alerted, police reached the village and began an investigation into the matter. Dukha’s body was seized and sent for post-mortem. It was later handed over to her family, sources said. Meanwhile, the condition of Meena remained critical while the report was written. PNN
