Woman murdered, husband, son injured in attack over a patch of govt land

Sonepur: Prolonged enmity between two families over a patch of government land took an ugly turn Sunday night when a woman was murdered by slitting her throat and her husband and son were injured critically in the attack by the rival family members at Ghodadhar village under Binika police limits in Subarnapur district.

The deceased was identified as fifty years old Pancheswari Luha. Kantia Luha, 55, and son Balasoer Luha, 23, who sustained cut injuries on different parts of the body, are undergoing treatment at the district headquarters hospital (DHH) here.

As tension is running high at the village, police force has been deployed to avoid any untoward incident.

Sources said that Luha and Bhoina families had been at loggerheads over a patch of government land for a long period. To settle the dispute, Mahadevpali outpost OIC Basant Kumar Rath arranged a meeting at the police station involving both the families.

After the meeting, Kantia, his wife Pancheswari and son Balasore were returning home on a motorcycle. At Ghodadhar Primary School, Bhoina family members, who had been waiting there for the trio, suddenly attacked them with sharp weapons.

On being informed, police reached the spot and seized the body for post-mortem and rushed the severely injured Kantia and Balasore to the hospital.

Police have launched a manhunt for the accused family members who have been absconding since the incident.
