Jeypore: In a shocking incident, a man and his minor son were left battling for life after the boy’s mother poured hot oil on them over a family feud while they were asleep Friday.
The bizarre incident was reported from Jeypore area in Koraput district. The two were rescued in a critical condition and admitted to Shahid Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital in Koraput where their condition was stated critical.
Acting on a complaint by the boy’s uncle, police registered a case and booked the woman on charges of murder attempt. Further investigation is going on.
According to sources, Sanatan Maharana (30) lived with his family in Prasadraopeta Lane-4 here in Jeypore. As usual, he was sleeping with his minor son Bibhuti while his wife Mita Maharana was awake Friday morning.
For reasons best known to her, she brought hot oil from the kitchen and poured it on the two. Hearing their screams, neighbours rushed to the spot and rescued them. Then they were taken to Jeypore sub-divisional hospital. After preliminary treatment, they were shifted to Koraput District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) as their condition worsened.
While Sanatan has sustained 70 per cent burns, the boy 50 per cent. Sources said, there was an altercation between the couple over some issue. In an act of revenge, the woman poured hot oil on them in a bid to eliminate both the father and son.
A case has been registered and a further probe is on, IIC Priyash Ranjan Chotaray said.
