Woman rescued from 25-ft deep well

Berhampur: Forest personnel rescued a woman from a 25-ft deep well after she accidentally fell into it at Panigrahi Sahi in Silk City Thursday.  The fire personnel rescued the woman from the well in an operation spanning over half an hour.

The survivor was identified as Kajal Panigrahi, wife of Santosh Panigrahi at Panigrahi Sahi in Silk City. The rescue act by the fire personnel has come in for praise from the residents as they hailed their bravery and timely intervention in rescuing the woman.

Kajal was sweeping the floor in her house when she accidentally slipped her legs and fell inside the well in her courtyard. Family members dropped a rope inside the well to rescue her but failed in their bid.

Later, the fire personnel rushed to the spot and tried to rescue the woman after being informed by their neighbours.

A team led by additional fire officer Sanatan Mohapatra and comprising fire personnel Debadutta Nayak, Arabinda Nayak, Jeetendra Kumar Pradhan, Srinivas Behera and Kulamani Kishan began efforts to rescue the woman.

A fireman went down the well with a portable ladder and rescued the woman by bringing her outside. Kajal after her rescue was admitted to the City Hospital where her health conditions improved after doctors administered her treatment. A team of Gosaninugaon police was deployed at the spot to prevent a possible law and order situation.
