Sajanagad: In a shocking incident, a poverty-stricken woman allegedly sold her one-year-old daughter for Rs 1,000 in Sajanagad in Balasore district. Police later rescued the baby.
The woman, Sasmita of Sajanagad had married Shyam Singh of Hatikhulia in Shyamsundarpur panchayat.
However, Shyam married another woman just two years after the first marriage and deserted Sasmita and the baby.
The woman was in deep distress and sold the baby to a person in Harijan Sahi for Rs 1000. The buyer had not paid more than Rs 1000. The woman was seeking a person who was capable of paying more than Rs 1000.
Villagers got to know of the incident and informed the police. Police rescued the baby girl and handed her over to the Balasore District Child Protection Committee.
