Balasore: A woman suffered serious injuries after setting herself on fire over a family feud here Sunday morning. To save the woman, her husband was also injured while trying to douse the flames. The incident took place at Adia village under Jadida panchayat and Soro police limit in Balasore district. The injured woman was identified as Bhanumati Maharana while her husband is Sashikanta Maharana. According to the information available, the couple had been quarrelling over some family matters and the argument turned bitter Sunday.
In a fit of anger, Bhanumati poured kerosene on herself and set herself ablaze. Hearing the screams of the woman and her husband, neighbours rushed to their house and doused the flames. The two were first rushed to the Soro Community Health Centre (CHC) from where they were later shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. Doctors said later in the day that the conditions of both are ‘critical’. On being informed, personnel from the Soro police station rushed to the spot and launched an investigation.
