Woman shot dead by hubby in Redhakhol

Sambalpur: A woman was allegedly shot dead by her husband following a heated brawl between the couple in Landimal Gochharamal village under Redhakhol police limits in Sambalpur district, Monday morning. The victim, Ambika Mirdha, 36, died at the scene.

Police detained her husband, Charan Mirdha, 40, in the village and seized the single-barrel country-made gun allegedly used in the killing. Additional Superintendent of Police Ajay Kumar Mishra said Charan and Ambika had been married for about 15 years. The couple had an argument over an unspecified issue that later escalated, police said. In a fit of rage, Charan fired at Ambika with an unlicensed country-made gun, killing her on the spot, police said.

Redhakhol police reached the scene after being alerted, recovered the body and detained Charan for questioning. A forensic team also visited the scene as part of the investigation. Police are questioning Cha ran about the source of the unlicensed firearm. Mishra said investigators are trying to establish how the gun came into his possession and determine the circumstances surrounding the killing. Police registered a murder case at Redhakhol police station and sent Ambika’s body for post-mortem. Further investigation was underway to establish the exact cause of the family dispute and other circumstances leading to the shooting.
