Woman succumbs to hubby’s acid attack

Balasore: An acid attack victim died Sunday at the SCB Medical and Hospital in Cuttack. The victim, Banita Singh had suffered serious burn injuries along with three others, when her husband had flung acid at her February 20.

Sources said that the alleged accused Chandan Rana owns a jewellery shop at Santaragadia of Nilgiri block in Balasore district. He had entered into a relationship with Banita who was a divorcee with two kids from her first marriage. The two got married last year.

However, Banita came to know later that Chandan was already married and was a father to two kids. She left Chandan’s house with her kids and moved in with her sister. Chandan persuaded her to come back, but Banita refused to do so.

On the day of the attack, Chandan and Banita were having a heated argument when the former threw acid at her. Trying to save Banita, her kids and sister also suffered injuries. Police have arrested Chandan.
